Children's Christian Education
First United Methodist Church has Sunday school classes for all ages. All children's grades and youth classes, and some adult classes, are held in the education wing on the south side of the church. The current schedules are provided below. All ages begin in the sanctuary with their parents for the first part of the 9:15 worship service. Then all ages are dismissed to their class after the Children's Message.

Nursery age children through 4-year-olds

  • Nursery – Room 133,
  • 2-4 year olds – Classrooms on the first floor
  • These children are involved with stories, crafts, music, and fun activities to help them learn and better understand Bible stories.

Kindergarten through 5th graders

We participate in Sunday School program described as "Workshop Rotation" -- the same Bible story or theme is taught for several weeks with students rotating to a different station each week.

The story remains the same, but children encounter it in different ways in each station. The variety of experiences keeps interest high throughout the unit and children are becoming more Bible literate by studying the same Bible story for several weeks. This curriculum is adaptable, innovative and more in-tune with how children learn today.

Come visit us and check out our newly remodeled 2nd floor education wing called "The Village".

The seven workshops are:
  • Artisan Avenue (art)
  • Storytime Square (drama and storytelling)
  • Cinema Centre (movie theatre)
  • Computer Commons (computer lab)
  • Corner Cafe (cooking)
  • Rhythm Road (music and movement)
  • Science Station (science)

Each week, signs are posted to direct children to the room they will be in for that day.

6th through 12th graders

Please note: The first Sunday of the month, there is no youth Sunday School so that they can worship with their families. Otherwise the young adults should go straight to their classrooms in the education wing basement.
  • 6th grade – Room 015
  • 7th/8th grade – Room 013
  • 9th-12th grade – Room 017
