Nurturing Spirituality in Children
7
pm on November 9
All too often, the frantic busyness of our lives leaves us with little energy for nurturing our spiritual lives or the spiritual lives of our children or grandchildren. In response to this cultural crisis, nationally-acclaimed children's book author and Rabbi Sandy Eisenberg Sasso focuses on sparking children's imaginations, awakening their sense of wonder, and inviting their questions about God in books such as God's Paintbrush, In God's Name, and For Heaven's Sake.
Exploring Scripture with Midrash
1:30 - 3:00 pm on November 9
Free and open to the public
In her book God’s Echo, Rabbi Sasso says "Midrash is both a product—a body of literature written over a period of time, and a process—a way of interpreting sacred text that continues to the present day." Together with Reverend Charles Schuster from First United Methodist Church and Rabbi Shoshana Leis from Congregation Har Shalom, Rabbi Sasso will show us how we can read scripture in ways that deeply nurture the development of our own spiritual lives.
Serving as rabbi of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, Indianapolis since 1977, Sandy and her husband Rabbi Dennis C. Sasso are the first practicing rabbinical couple in world Jewish history. Rabbi Sandy Sasso is active in the arts, civic and interfaith communities and has written and lectured on women and spirituality and the discovery of the religious imagination in children. Rabbi Sasso received her B.A. Magna Cum Laude and M.A. from Temple University. She was the first woman ordained from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 1974 and recBooks eived her Doctor of Divinity in 1999.
